Through a series of experimental studies utilizing various light sources, the characteristic signatures of internal fault arcs were identified.
Based on these findings, and employing a single-criterion rule for arc detection, a fiber-optic sensor and an economical, practical, distributed multi-point protection device for detecting internal fault arcs were developed.
This device is characterized not only by its simple structure and low cost but also by its rapid response time and strong immunity to interference. Furthermore, it can be utilized either as a standalone unit or integrated with various relay protection systems, thereby significantly enhancing both the technical sophistication and added value of the switchgear with only a minimal increase in cost.
